I've been trying to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable and every time I run the setup file the progress fills up quickly and stops at

Installation Progress - Product Information Article
    Funktion: FT_VC_Redist_OpenMP_x86

After about a few hours I received an error code 1935. HRESULT: 0x800736FD

I tried to uninstall but even the uninstall progress bar also hangs after about 95% mark. I have another install of Visual C++ FYI, in case that's relevant. I also have problems when I try to uninstall other versions of Visual C++. I am using Windows 8.

The last lines of the log are:

    MSI (s) (AC:48) [02:36:23:993]: Set LastUsedType to: n.
    MSI(s) ( AC : 48 ) [ 02 : 36 : 23 : 993 ] : Defined LastUsedIndex for : 1 .

MSI (s) (AC:48) [03:20:36:939]: Deployment failed (sxs) - See the component-based servicing log at %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log for more diagnostic information.
    The installer stops responding.

I hope this information is enough to fix the problem. If more information is needed please let me know. Many Thanks

    Hello Tikysan,

I know that a factory reset would be a long process.

There is a chance that you have already uninstalled these packages, but the control panel does not recognize the process and still prompts you to uninstall them.

For example, I recently installed VS 2015 Update 3 but it always shows VS 2015 with Update 2 Edition via Control Panel.

You can try restarting Windows in Safe Mode and cleaning some registries and applications for smooth operation.

    Hello Tikysan,

    Thank you for your contribution.

    the HRESULT is0x800736FD🇧🇷 I verified myself withBug-Tool,

It shows "An HRESULT could not be translated into a corresponding Win32 error code." So it doesn't show any obvious evidence, so it would be difficult for me to narrow down the root cause.

So I suggest you try some common solutions like the following:

    1. Disable antivirus software during installation
    2. Check Control Panel to see if "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable" has already been successfully installed on your computer. If yes, try removing it.

You can then download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package with the correct version based on your computer's operating system:

    Hello Lana,

Thank you for your prompt reply. I personally tried installing it after disabling and reinstalling my antivirus, but it still didn't work. Also, I couldn't uninstall or go back without the progress bar getting stuck somewhere as well.

    Hello Tikysan,

Now you couldn't uninstall it without problems, right?

where did you put it a screenshot would be very helpful.

You can also use msiinv to collect information about what is installed on a computer instead of usingmsiexec.exe to uninstall the relevant components.

The uninstall gets stuck at "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.21022". The progress bar gets stuck at the end.

After some time I close the window via task manager and try to uninstall via control panel and this time they say the program has already been uninstalled.

As for msiinv, I couldn't even run it because it says access is denied. This is weird because my user is the admin and there shouldn't be any access issues...

    Hello Tikysan,

If you've already run this tool as an administrator but still got access denied, how about checking your system defenses and disabling the firewall?

Tell us the edition of your Windows operating system, check for Windows updates and update it.

    Is that Win7?

If yes, please install Win 7 Sp1, here is the download link:

    This is Win8.

I ran msiinv again and it gave me error code 1605 but it still produced the output.
Visual C++ 2008 x86 is not on the list.
However, every installation leads to the problem I mentioned in the first post.

Is this problem related to the registry? Or should I perform a new factory reset to solve the problem?

    Hello Tikysan,

If you try multiple times to uninstall VC++ Redistributable, you may have a missing or corrupted registry key.

    >>Or do I need to do a new factory reset to fix the problem?

You are right, clean operating system format gives you a very clean environment to install software and applications, you can try it, please backup your important files before doing it.

Thank you for your prompt reply.
I really don't want to factory reset the ATM so it would be best if I could solve this problem without one if possible.

Apparently it says in the log that I still have x86 Visual 2008 installed.
I've tried uninstalling using msiexec.exe with product code C++ 2008 x86 but it's still stuck at "Please wait while Windows is configuring Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable -x86 9.0.21022..." with almost full progress bar.
